The next issue of Transactions of AESOP will be published on 01 March 2021

It is a special issue that brings together a series of papers which reflect on the European Spatial Development Perspective (ESDP) document which was adopted by the then member states of the European Union (EU) in Potsdam, Germany in 1999.

The issue is also published in the wake of the adoption in December 2020 of a new EU Territorial Agenda 2030 and a new Leipzig Charter for sustainable urban development in Europe under the recent German EU Presidency. The Special Issue features an introduction and five original papers from Andreas Faludi, Frédéric Santamaria and Bernard Elissalde, Kai Böhme, Eva Purkarthofer and Carlotta Fiorettia and Martina Pertoldi. After a year of great uncertainty marked by the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and all the immediate worries and concerns it has engendered, the papers offer an opportunity to 'look back to look forward' and take a ‘long view’ of the legacies of the ESDP and the present and future prospects for European territorial and urban development policy.
