AESOP is pleased to share an invitation from the SURE Facilitation and Synthesis Project (F&SR) at HafenCity University Hamburg, Germany, encouraging members of the planning community to participate in an international research survey on decision-making for sustainable urban development.

The project, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR), seeks to better understand how decisions are made across different planning contexts and what types of knowledge, information and support are needed by professionals working towards more sustainable cities and regions.

The survey is intended for individuals involved in decision-making related to sustainable urban development, including professionals working in:

  • Local, regional and national governments;

  • Public administration;

  • Universities and research institutions;

  • NGOs and community organisations;

  • Planning and engineering consultancies;

  • Private sector organisations;

  • International cooperation and development.

Participants are invited to complete a 20-minute online survey exploring three main themes:

  • Who decision-makers are;

  • How decisions are made;

  • What information, tools and support are needed to improve decision-making processes.

The results of the survey will contribute to the development of a decision-support model and practical tool, scheduled for release in 2028, with the aim of strengthening evidence-informed and effective decision-making in sustainable urban development.

AESOP encourages members of its international community to consider participating and, where appropriate, to share the survey within their professional networks.
