The Instituto Universitario de Urbanística (University Institute of Urban Planning) has launched a call for chapters for a collective volume entitled “The deployment of the Spanish Urban (and Rural) Agenda: perspectives and challenges towards 2030,” which will be published as part of the new DOSSIER Ciudades series. This call, coordinated by Federico Camerin, aims to report on the progress, challenges, and critical elements of the implementation of the Spanish Urban (and Rural) Agenda from 2019 to the present and towards 2030. This objective, in turn, refers to the need to understand how and to what extent this strategic tool is used to carry out specific projects that respond to the priorities of Spanish municipalities and provinces, strengthening local capacities and contributing to the well-being of communities through a sustainable and integrated approach to achieve a resilient future.
This collective volume offers an opportunity to establish a shared forum for the dissemination of considerations, with the aim of generating new knowledge, addressing existing knowledge gaps, and potentially mitigating limitations in the process of adopting and implementing the Spanish Urban (and Rural) Agenda, even abroad (comparisons are also welcomed). The potential of the Agenda in relation to urban planning, governance, financing, training, and knowledge exchange can be also explored by the chapters. The overarching objective is to contribute to the formulation of a contemporary vision for this strategic instrument, whilst simultaneously interrogating its opportunities and critical issues from the vantage point of the inherent intricacy of the paradigm of sustainable urban and rural development. This endeavour involves transcending prevailing conventions and delving beyond the examination of discrete processes and sectoral developments.
