The conference  “Circular Design for Urban Transformation”, organised within the framework of the European project CID Innovation Alliance, will take place on 28–30 May 2026 at the Leibniz University of Hannover. The deadline for abstract submission is 15 March 2026

The conference addresses circularity as a key paradigm for contemporary urban and regional transformation, with a strong focus on spatial planning, governance arrangements, urban regeneration processes, social innovation and the transition toward a bio-based and circular economy. It aims to bring together scholars and practitioners working on planning-led approaches to circularity, urban regeneration, territorial governance, and systemic urban change across different scales and contexts.

We particularly welcome contributions that critically engage with:

  • planning and governance frameworks for circular urban development,
  • the integration of circular and bio-based economies into spatial and urban policies,
  • urban design- and planning-based strategies for the regeneration of existing urban fabrics,
  • institutional and multi-actor arrangements supporting long-term urban transformation.
