University Assistant (Prae-Doc)
30 hours/week | limited to 4 years

At the Institute of Spatial Planning, in the Research Unit of Urban and Regional Research TU Wien is offering a position as university assistant (prae-doc), for a 4 year contract period for 30 hours/week. With this position we seek to strengthen our research focus on digitalisation, digital twins, AI and spatial analysis. Enhancing the number of hours per week to a full-time position is possible and desirable through the contribution to externally funded research projects.
Tasks:
- Excellent research in the field of urban and regional science, and completion of a dissertation
- Participation in research projects in the research fields of the research unit
- Presentation of research results and participation in scientific meetings
- Contribution to teaching activities, preparation of teaching materials, (co-)supervision of exercises, exams, bachelor’s, and master’s theses
- Participation in research projects
- Assistance/Collaboration in organizational and administrative tasks
Your profile:
- Excellent master's level degree or expectation to obtain one within a few months in a relevant field, ideally in spatial planning, geography, or other relevant fields.
- Curious and highly motivated for scientific research in the field of urban and regional sciences
- Initial experience with research projects (e.g., thesis, internships, publications)
- Knowledge of or substantial interest in emerging and existing digital tools (e.g. GIS, BIM, Phyton, R or quantitative methods of urban and regional analysis)
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team
- Very good spoken and written English. Knowledge of German (language level B2) or willingness to learn it in the first year
- Experience or interest to contribute to interdisciplinary research
- Willingness to contribute to third-party funded research projects and interest
- Ability to work independently and in a team, problem-solving skills and ability to think innovatively.

Entry level salary is determined by the pay grade B1 of the Austrian collective agreement for university staff. This is a minimum of currently EUR 2,458.00/month gross, 14 times/year for 30 hours/week. Relevant working experiences may increase the monthly income.
