Subject/subject description

Human Geography explores the relationship between people and places. The subject is rooted in theoretical frameworks in human geography and the social sciences. Urban and regional planning involves balancing and weighing up different interests against one another to create the conditions for sustainable development. The Department of Human Geography has a broad social geography focus, and teaching takes place in the main subject areas of Human Geography, Urban and Regional Planning, Geography, and Global Development. We also participate in several interdisciplinary programmes at both undergraduate and master levels.

 

Main responsibilities

The duties consist of teaching, research and administration, as well as monitoring and contributing to developments in the field of Urban and Regional Planning from both a research and teaching perspective.Teaching will primarily take place in the urban planning programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, although teaching will also occur in other programmes. Teaching at undergraduate level is mainly conducted in Swedish, whilst teaching at postgraduate level is conducted in English. During the first two years, teaching duties are expected to amount to at least 50%.The employment is shared between research and teaching according to the current collective agreement.

 

Qualification requirements

Eligible applicants for the position of senior lecturer should hold a doctoral degree in Human Geography or Urban and Regional Planning, or possess equivalent academic expertise, and have demonstrated teaching ability.It is required to have teaching and research experience in the subject area Urban Planning.The applicant must have the ability to cooperate with colleagues as well as other abilities that are required in order successfully to meet the demands of the position.To be able to perform the duties of the position, the applicant must have a documented ability to use Swedish in speech and writing at a professional level. This can be demonstrated, for example, by documented experience of teaching in Swedish or a certificate of language skills corresponding to at least B2 level (CEFR).

 

Assessment criteria

Special and equal emphasis will be placed on teaching and research skills.Teaching proficiency should normally be demonstrated through teaching experience at both the undergraduate- and master’s levels. Teaching proficiency should be well documented in a manner that makes it possible to assess the quality of the teaching activities.Strong emphasis will be placed on a documented ability to cooperate well with colleagues and fellow researchers.Strong emphasis will also be placed on having successfully planned, applied for and obtained research project funds from external research funding bodies in the field of Urban and Regional Planning.Strong emphasis is attached to knowledge of Swedish urban planning, as well as planning theory and/or practical experience.Emphasis will be placed on administrative skills and proven collaboration with the surrounding society and dissemination of research and development findings.It is a merit to have completed at least 15 higher education credits in teaching and learning in higher education or to have otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge.

 

About the employment

This position (in Swedish, “universitetslektor”) is full-time, indefinite-term employment. A six-month probationary period may apply.An applicant who does not have at least 15 higher education credits in teaching and learning in higher education, and is not deemed to have acquired equivalent knowledge, must complete such training within the first two years of employment.
