Professorship (W1) with W3 tenure track Landscape Planning


Our profile
TU Dortmund University comprises 17 departments in the natural and engineering sciences as well as the humanities and social sciences and is a dynamic university with a strong profile in research, teaching, promotion of young scientists and transfer.
With around 1,300 students and 18 professorships, the Department of Spatial Planning is one of the largest educational institutions for spatial planning in Europe. The department's scholars follow an interdisciplinary research and teaching concept.


Profile of the professorship
You represent the field of landscape planning in research and further develop this with (inter-)national visibility. In doing so, you participate in research networks and cooperations within and outside TU Dortmund University. You are committed to acquiring third-party funding, promoting early career researchers and participating in the department's interdisciplinary teaching. The willingness to supervise study projects or design studios is expected.
The appointment is initially for a period of three years as a temporary civil servant. In the course of the third year, this status will be reviewed and may be extended for a further three years depending on performance. At the end of this six-year assistant professorship at the latest, the tenure track will lead to continued employment as a tenured W3 professor, provided that the necessary aptitude, competence, and academic performance have been demonstrated and that the legal requirements pertaining to Section 38 of the  North Rhine-Westphalia Higher Education Act (Gesetz über die Hochschulen des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen, HG NRW) are met. The teaching load is four hours per week in each of the first three years. In the case of a positive review, it will increase to five hours per week in each of the last three years.


Your qualifications
You demonstrate your special aptitude for in-depth academic work, generally through an above-average and relevant doctorate, and can already prove first experience in spreading  your research in the field of the professorship in at least one of the following areas

  • landscape planning, including the assessment of ecosystem services,
  • innovative approaches to open space planning and green space design in cities and metropolises

through publications in recognized journals, including those with peer review. Experience in obtaining competitively awarded external funding is just as desirable as teaching  experience. Additionally, you have the potential for teaching excellence. Social and leadership skills and the willingness to participate in academic self-administration complete your profile. Moreover, the recruitment requirements in Section 36 and 37 HG NRW apply.
