Visiting or Regular Faculty Position | Assistant or Associate Professor | Program Academic Coordinator
The College of Architecture, Art and Design (CAAD) at American University of Sharjah (AUS) invites applications for a visiting or regular faculty appointment—at the assistant or associate level—to the Master of Urban Planning (MUP) program. This position provides an opportunity to teach and conduct research in a unique urban context and to make a difference in the practice of urban planning. Program graduates occupy professional and governmental leadership positions across the region. As a result of AUS’s recent push to enhance research, there is now significant support for research activities. Applicants will have demonstrated excellence in teaching, scholarship and service or the potential for such excellence. Applicants must possess expertise—developed through academic work and/or professional practice—in some combination of geospatial analysis, geodesign, computer applications in planning, urban plan-making and research methods in planning.
The successful candidate will teach a combination of required core courses and elective offerings at the graduate and undergraduate levels, as well as the program’s capstone workshop. The successful candidate—if appointed as regular faculty and possessing relevant prior experience—may also provide program leadership, involving administrative tasks such as curriculum development, teaching assignments and student recruitment. Preference will be given to applicants with academic experience in the North American model of higher education.
A PhD in urban planning or a related field is required.
The successful candidate is expected to assume duties in August 2023.

CAAD offers five undergraduate programs leading to degrees in architecture, interior design, visual communication, multimedia design and design management, along with the Master of Urban Planning degree.
