The School of the Built Environment at Heriot-Watt has a well established Masters in Research (MRes/MSc) programme, for social scientists aiming to undertake PhD research or for practitioners who wish to upskill, on a part-time basis, completing with a focused practice-relevant piece of research. The programme offers an intensive 12 months training in social science research methods and their application through the Masters dissertation.
The programme is part of the Scottish Doctoral Training College funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) (http://www.socsciscotland.ac.uk), and is recognised for ESRC 1+3 awards. The aim is to deliver doctoral graduates with a broad perspective, based on solid foundational training and advanced methods and theoretical training throughout their doctoral programme.
