
AESOP is looking for new members to join the Excellence in Education Board (EEB), as the current board reaches the end of its term at the end of 2026. The new Board will be comprised of 10 members, who will have a three-year term of appointment, from 1st January 2027 to 31st December 2029.
EEB member responsibilities include:
- Looking after the evolution and enhancement of the AESOP Quality Recognition (QR) Programme as defined on the AESOP website:
https://aesop-planning.eu/activities/quality-recognition
- Evaluating incoming QR applications after each annual call, including assessing initial written applications, holding feedback meetings with applicants, and drafting feedback reports.
- Upholding the high standards of quality necessary for awarding the AESOP Certificate of Quality, through the operation of transparent and robust evaluation processes.
Board members are able to claim reimbursement of reasonable travel and accommodation expenses, where in-person meetings are specifically convened by the Chair for the purposes of conducting EEB business.
Applicants are advised that the first meeting of the next EEB will take place in either the week beginning 18th January 2027 or the week beginning 25th January 2027. This will be a particularly important meeting to attend for members new to EEB and the QR process.
Member Criteria
As a minimum, members of the EEB should have:
- Experience in preparing and leading educational programmes in planning at Undergraduate and/or Postgraduate levels.
- Good communication and cooperation skills, and fluency in English.
- Familiarised themselves with the mission and process of the AESOP QR Programme.
- Committed to the aim of promoting excellence in education in AESOP member institutions.
Profiles that demonstrate involvement in processes of quality assurance and control in candidates’ own institutional/national contexts and/or involvement in AESOP activities promoting excellence in planning education will be considered favourably.
Format and Submission of Applications
Applications should take the form of a Curriculum Vitae and a Letter of Motivation. The Letter of Motivation should take into account the above criteria and should be a maximum of two A4 pages in length.

Selection of Members
The EEB Chair will constitute a panel from AESOP’s Executive Committee to assess the incoming applications and advise on the selection of the new EEB members. The final decision will be made by the EEB Chair.
