 AESOP is pleased to announce the release of a new video-podcast developed in connection with a recently published special issue of Transactions of the Association of European Schools of Planning.

The video features a 30-minute recorded conversation between Transactions editors Oleksandr Anisimov and Dominic Stead, together with Marco Cremaschi, Editor of Transactions. The discussion offers an accessible and reflective overview of the special issue and its key contributions.

The special issue focuses on a crucial and often overlooked dimension of Ukraine’s recovery: the role of spatial planning. While many current debates concentrate on financial instruments, governance structures or reconstruction funding, the video highlights how planning perspectives — including land use, spatial governance, territorial cohesion and the built environment — are fundamental to long-term, resilient recovery.

During the conversation, the speakers reflect on:

  • the importance of spatial planning in post-conflict reconstruction processes;

  • lessons from historical European recovery experiences;

  • the role of planning in shaping democratic, inclusive and territorially balanced futures;

  • and how planning can support alignment with broader European and international frameworks.

This video-podcast complements the special issue by translating complex academic insights into an engaging and accessible format, aimed at researchers, practitioners, students and policy-makers alike.

🎥 Watch the video-podcast via the AESOP Digital Archive and explore how spatial planning can contribute to understanding and supporting Ukraine’s recovery.
