1. Introduction

The Association of European Schools of Planning (AESOP) invites applications for the position of Chair of the AESOP Excellence in Education Board (EEB) for the term 2026–2029.
The Chair oversees the Excellence in Education Board, coordinates the Quality Recognition Programme, and ensures the quality and transparency of assessment processes for awarding the AESOP Certificate of Quality.

2. Governance and Mandate

Pursuant to Article 16e of the AESOP Charter, the Chair of the Excellence in Education Board is an AESOP Official and is therefore elected by the Council of Representatives (CoRep). The mandate lasts four years.

  • Election year: 2026
  • Start of mandate: 1 August 2026
  • End of mandate: 31 July 2030
  • Transition: Following the election, the Chair-designate is expected to shadow the current EEB Chair until assuming office on 1 August 2026.

  • Provide overall coordination and strategic leadership of the EEB.
  • Manage and further develop the AESOP Quality Recognition Programme.
  • Guarantee quality and transparency in all assessment procedures for the AESOP Certificate of Quality.
  • Convene and chair EEB meetings; ensure timely communication and reporting to AESOP governance bodies.
  • Foster international collaboration and best practices in planning education across AESOP member institutions.

4. Profile of the Ideal Candidate

AESOP seeks a committed and dedicated candidate who is:

  • Fluent in English;
  • Familiar with the Board’s remit, with proven experience in designing, running, and evaluating planning education programmes in an international context;
  • Skilled in communication and stakeholder engagement.

5. Election Procedure and Timeline

  • Application deadline: 1 February 2026
  • Shortlisting: Conducted by the AESOP Executive Committee.
  • Election: Final confirmation and vote by the Council of Representatives at the 2026 Head of Schools CoRep meeting in As, 12 March 2026.
  • Assumption of office: 1 August 2026 (with a shadowing period from election until 31 July 2026).

A fundamental and necessary condition for eligibility is that the candidate’s home institution must be in good standing with AESOP, having fully paid its membership fees up to the year preceding the application.
