AESOP is pleased to announce the call for the position of AESOP’s representative in the Global Planning Education Association Network (GPEAN).

Position Overview

As outlined in Article 23(f) of the AESOP Charter, the AESOP GPEAN representative serves a four-year term, beginning in August 2025 and concluding in July 2029. The elected candidate will act as AESOP’s voice within GPEAN, fostering collaboration between planning schools worldwide. This position requires strong communication skills, fluency in English, and the ability to work in diverse, multicultural settings. Previous experience with AESOP activities and international cooperation is highly desirable.

The current AESOP GPEAN Representative, Paulo Silva, will provide guidance to ensure a smooth transition.

Key Responsibilities

  • Represent AESOP within GPEAN, advocating for the association's interests.
  • Promote cooperation with other planning school associations and networks.
  • Attend AESOP Executive Committee (ExCo) meetings (3 times annually).
  • Participate in one in-person GPEAN meeting annually, with some meetings held outside of Europe.
  • Participate in regular online GPEAN council meetings
  • Availability to volunteer to liaise with other networks and institutions with which GPEAN develops cooperation (e. g., HABITAT-Uni, ISOCARP, GPN) 

Eligibility

  • As outlined in Article 22(b) of the AESOP Charter, only academics from AESOP Full Memberinstitutions are eligible to run for AESOP GPEAN representative.

  • AESOP GPEAN Representative Term: August 2025 – July 2029 (possible extension until July 2031)
  • Election Date: 12 March 2025, during the AESOP Council of Representatives Meeting in Liverpool.
  • Application Deadline: 3 February 2025
