Last week, representatives of the AESOP Executive Committee visited Thessaloniki, Greece, for a meeting with the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the AESOP Annual Congress and PhD Workshop 2028, which will take place in July 2028.

The visit provided a valuable opportunity to strengthen collaboration between AESOP and the local organisers, discuss preparations for the upcoming events, and explore the facilities and venues that will welcome the international planning community in 2028.

During their stay, the Executive Committee representatives had the opportunity to visit several university buildings, lecture halls, meeting rooms and other facilities that will host the Congress and PhD Workshop. These visits offered an encouraging first impression of the preparations already underway and the opportunities that Thessaloniki will offer to participants.

Beyond the organisational aspects, the visit was also an opportunity to discover the unique atmosphere of Thessaloniki. With its rich historical heritage, vibrant urban life and beautiful waterfront, the city provides an exceptional setting for academic exchange, networking and discussions about the future of planning.

Above all, the AESOP representatives were particularly impressed by the extraordinary hospitality and enthusiasm of the Local Organising Committee. From the very first moments, our Greek colleagues made us feel warmly welcomed, offering an early glimpse of the hospitality that participants can expect in 2028.

AESOP would like to extend its sincere appreciation to the entire Local Organising Committee for their warm welcome, dedication and commitment to preparing what promises to be an inspiring gathering for the international planning community.

We look forward to continuing our collaboration over the coming months and to returning to Thessaloniki in July 2028.

Thessaloniki 2028 is already taking shape, and we cannot wait to share this experience with the AESOP community!

Stay tuned for further updates on the AESOP Annual Congress and PhD Workshop 2028.
