Solidarity Statement with academics in Ukraine and Ukrainian scholars abroad, March 2022

We, as the AESOP Thematic Group Public Spaces and Urban Cultures are concerned about the victims and the destruction in Ukraine, and the escalation of violence that fuels fear.

We call for the immediate abandonment of the use of arms and for a return to dialogue, the only way to rebuild respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms.

We stand in solidarity with our colleagues and their families affected by this and fully claim for their rights to practice their profession in a
full extent and live with dignity.

In keeping with the spirit of cooperation with which the Thematic Group promotes its activities in the field of urban studies and with the
principles of solidarity, inclusion and fraternity between people, we join in the appeals for peace that many other scientific communities have already made.
