We are excited to share the final international symposium for our international research network TOD-IS-RUR (Transit Oriented Development for Inclusive and Sustainable Rural-Urban Regions), taking place at Cité Descartes, École nationale des ponts et chaussées and Université Gustave Eiffel (Paris) on the 23rd May 2024.
This one-day symposium focuses on mobility-urbanisation relations beyond the city, with a specific focus on suburban, peri-urban, and rural spaces. Our overarching aim is to challenge some of the dominant narratives and influential concepts used in land-use and mobility planning and research, questioning whether these are useful or even appropriate in rural-urban contexts. Additionally, the symposium aims to provide new analytical and critical perspectives on popular models of mobility-urbanisation planning, such as Transit-Oriented Development (TOD). Novel approaches include multi-scalar and multi-temporal perspectives, connecting micro-studies of stations areas with regional transport corridors, historical analyses with future scenarios. Whilst the conference is primarily research focused, we encourage the participation of practitioners, policy makers, activists, and others working with mobility-urbanisation issues. The symposium is organized around three themed roundtables, with active participation from members of the audience being highly encouraged.
