Dear colleagues, fellow researchers, and friends of Dimensions. Journal of Architectural Knowledge,
we are pleased to share with you the current Call for Contributions for the upcoming issue »Changing Spatial Practices: Alliances, Activism and Networks« of Dimensions. Journal of Architectural Knowledge, edited by Kadambari Baxi (Barnard College, Columbia University, New York), Isabel Glogar (Technical University of Munich), Gabu Heindl (University Kassel), Bernadette Krejs (Vienna University of Technology), Tatjana Schneider (TU Braunschweig).
In times of multiple crises – characterized by inequality, exploitation, conflicts and violent forms of extraction – multidimensional and diverse forms of thinking, designing and building, disrupt and challenge existing paradigms in the field of architecture. With this Call for Contributions, we raise the questions:
– What do these crises do to architecture as profession, practice and discipline?
– How do architects and other spatial practitioners contribute to other imaginaries?
– Referring to Audre Lorde (1983/2007: 30) we ask: »Are we doing the work?«.
We aim to exploit how the field of work and practice, as well as the terminology of ›space‹ are changing, i.e. reaching beyond the physical space, including social and action related spatial constellations, political spaces, ecological environments. We seek contributions that stimulate new forms of architectural knowledge focusing on feminist spatial practices, collaborative practices and alliances, actors and networks involved. We particularly invite inter-, cross- and transdisciplinary contributions that reflect and report on the consequences of such changes for architectural knowledge.
