The interdisciplinary research group “Climate Change and Spatial Development: Adaptation Strategies of Urban and Regional Planning in Urban Regions of the Baltic Sea Coast” is currently being established. The social-ecological research group has two aims: firstly, to analyze the specific consequences of climate change for the population of coastal urban regions against the background of sustainable urban and regional development and to analyze the different discourses and forms of knowledge. Secondly, its intention is to form adaptation strategies of planning for these coastal regions of the Baltic Sea, in order to deal with the effects of climate change and the given uncertainties in the light of sustainable development.
In order to pursue these objectives, we intend to work with various partners from the Baltic Sea Region on a transdisciplinary basis. As the research group is in formation, there are several temporary research positions offered for the period as of August 2009 until July 2013.
