This year’s Heads of School Meeting addresses one of the most pressing questions in planning education: what gives planning and planners legitimacy to shape development outcomes in the public interest?

In an era marked by rising populist and anti-truth movements across Europe and beyond, the legitimacy of specialized professional knowledge is increasingly contested. This creates a significant challenge for planners and educators aiming to develop inclusive teaching strategies that equip future planners to navigate:

  • Complex societal dynamics,
  • Disagreements on collective interests, and
  • Contested claims to expertise and authority.

The 2025 AESOP Heads of School Meeting will focus on inclusive teaching approaches that prepare planners to work reflectively in environments where building consensus can be challenging.

What to Expect:

  • Keynote Speakers: Insights from leading planning theorists and practitioners.
  • Interactive Workshops: Discussions on innovative and inclusive teaching methods.
  • Mobile Workshops: On Friday, participants will explore the Liverpool City Region, engaging with real-world planning challenges and practices.

Join us for this critical discussion and help shape the future of planning education in a rapidly changing world.
