AESOP is pleased to announce the call for the position of Treasurer.

This key role involves overseeing the financial management of the association and contributing to its long-term stability and success.

Position Overview

As outlined in Article 23(e) of the AESOP Charter, the Treasurer serves a four-year term, starting in August 2025 and concluding in July 2029

Key Responsibilities

  • Budget Management: Manage AESOP’s budget, ensuring the association’s financial health.
  • Annual Financial Planning: Prepare the annual financial plan and the annual financial statement for presentation and approval by the Council of Representatives.
  • Day-to-Day Financial Oversight: Handle daily financial operations in coordination with the association's accounting service to ensure compliance with Belgian tax regulations.
  • Reporting: The Treasurer must ensure that all financial documentation is prepared and reported in English.

In addition, the elected candidate will be required to explore the potential advantages of the professionalization of the association, including those related to the professionalization of its Treasurer functions.

If necessary, the engagement of an assistant to AESOP Treasury may be agreed in relation to specific tasks. The current AESOP Treasurer, Camilla Perrone, will provide guidance to ensure a smooth transition.

Candidate Qualifications

Candidates should demonstrate:

  • Experience in managing significant budgetsand familiarity with financial processes.
  • Strong communication skillsto collaborate effectively with the Executive Committee and external partners.
  • The ability to navigate financial administration, including tax obligations and legal frameworks.

Eligibility

  • As outlined in Article 22(b) of the AESOP Charter, only academics from AESOP Full Memberinstitutions are eligible to run for Treasurer. Per Article 23(k), once the mandatory term has been completed, the Treasurer shall not be eligible for re-election in the same functions.

  • Election Date: 12 March 2025, during the AESOP Council of Representatives Meeting in Liverpool.
