About the Congress
The 2011 WPSC in Perth, Western Australia is the third WPSC event to be held in a decade, and will build on the success of the 2001 and 2006 Congresses in Shanghai and Mexico City.
An initiative of the Global Planning Education Association Network (GPEAN), the WPSC has established itself as the leading international congress for urban planning educators and university sector researchers, bringing together the finest scholars from the nine planning schools regions. These include:

- Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning [USA] (ACSP)
- Association of Canadian University Planning Programs (ACUPP)
- Association of European Schools of Planning (AESOP)
- Latin American Association of Schools of Urbanism and Planning (ALEUP)
- National Association of Urban and Regional Post-graduate and Research Programs [Brazil](ANPUR)
- Australia and New Zealand Association of Planning Schools (ANZAPS)
- Association for the Development of Planning Education and Research (APERAU)
- Asian Planning Schools Association (APSA)
The decade ahead promises to present a raft of new and unique challenges for urban and regional planning in both developed and developing nations and the aim of the WPSC 2011 is to consider and investigate those challenges from fresh perspectives.
As in previous years, the Congress sets out to create an environment that will give rise to cutting-edge ideas and collaborations – innovations and advances that will, in turn, better equip Governments to tackle the many and varied issues facing us all.
With up to 1000 delegates expected to visit one of Australia’s fastest growing cities to take part in the event, WPSC 2011 will feature hundreds of presentations and papers and high profile keynote speakers participating in up to 15 tracks.
WPSC 2011 host organization, The University of Western Australia, is one of Australia’s premier universities with an international reputation for excellence, innovation and enterprise. As well, the Congress will benefit from the involvement of planning schools across the Australian and New Zealand Association of Planning Schools (ANZAPS) region and planners from State and Local governments and private enterprises across Perth.
With the stage set for the WPSC 2011 to have a significant influence on and make a major contribution to the urban planning decisions of countries around the world in the years ahead, we look forward to welcoming the best planning scholars to Perth, Western Australia in July 2011.
