AESOP PARIS CONGRESS 2024

‍In just three months, the intellectual banquet of the 2024 Aesop Congress will commence at Sciences Po Paris. With over 1700 submissions received, hundreds of researchers will converge from various corners of the globe. This year's congress is particularly noteworthy for its ability to attract participants from distant regions, including China and the Far East. While the charm of Paris undeniably contributes to this impressive turnout, the true allure stems from the city's and Aesop's roles as pioneering centres for experimental endeavours.

The alignment of Paris with a "bioclimatic" plan, the commitment of neighbouring St. Denis to sustainable strategies for the Olympic Games, and the concurrent hosting of the AESOP congress at Sciences Po are not mere coincidences. These initiatives challenge traditional institutional paradigms and transcend disciplinary boundaries. They signify a departure from the notion of a singular, all-encompassing solution—a flaw evident in France's ecological rhetoric and Brussels' aspirational green transition.

Do you remember the era of "making big plans," when grand aspirations overshadowed the significance of apt and fine tools? Instead, the 2024 Aesop Congress focuses on the mechanisms of policies, technical innovations, and social agreements that drive meaningful change. This presents a unique opportunity to reassess shared interests within an ever-evolving scientific and geopolitical landscape across theoretical divides and empirical domains.

Participants will engage in discussions across 18 tracks, 144 sessions, and numerous special events throughout the congress. During lunch and evening sessions, the French Research Fair will lead dynamic discussions on innovative topics such as housing, Paris's ecological plan, land renaturalization, the delicate balance between density and mobility, and strategies for revitalizing neglected urban areas.
looking forward to meeting Aesop in Paris!

AESOP PhD Workshop - Grenoble, July 3-6 2024

AHEAD OF THE GAME.

REVERSIBILITY, FRUGALITY AND CARE IN THE CONTEXT OF URBAN TRANSITIONS

Working with what already exists, recycling soil, using resources sparingly and caring for objects that we want to be more reversible and less fixed in their uses... are some of the more challenging objectives of contemporary urban planning. For its past Olympic city and historical citizens’ movements about local governments, Grenoble is a perfect place to discuss these topics....
