BEWARE OF SUSPICIOUS EMAILS

Recently, there have been multiple reports of phishing and fraud attempts targeting our members via email.

They are currently using the identity of the AESOP president.

Here are some key points to be aware of:

  1. Email Source Verification: Always verify the sender's email address. Legitimate communications from AESOP will always come from AESOP's official email account (@aesop-planning.eu) or the official university email accounts of its Officials. Be cautious of emails from addresses that appear suspicious or unfamiliar. In particular, these fraud attempts included emails from a fake account similar to a legitimate one.
  2. Avoid Suspicious Links: Do not click on any links or download attachments from emails that seem suspicious or unexpected, especially if they ask for personal information or account details.
  3. Beware of Urgent or Threatening Language: Phishing emails often use urgency or threats to manipulate you into taking action quickly. If you receive an email that makes you feel pressured to act immediately, take a step back and verify its authenticity.
  4. Verify Requests for Sensitive Information: Be sceptical of any email requesting sensitive information like your password, credit card details, or Social Security number. Legitimate organisations will never ask for such information via email.

If you receive an email that you suspect is a phishing attempt using AESOP identify, please do the following:

  1. Do Not Respond: Do not reply to the email or engage with the sender.
  2. Do Not Click on Links: Avoid clicking on any links or downloading any attachments.
  3. Report It: Forward the suspicious email to the AESOP Secretariat (secretariat@aesop-planning.euso that we can investigate.

Your security is of paramount importance to us. We are actively working to enhance our email security measures to protect your accounts from phishing attempts. In the meantime, please remain vigilant and follow these guidelines to keep your association account safe.

We are dismayed by this situation. However, we would like to point out that our database is safe and all the data they collect and use is data shared on our sites, on the institutional sites of the universities.

Thank you for your attention to this matter!
